OnePlus has been making use of MediaTek chipsets for a little while now, packing the Dimensity 1200 in the Nord 2 and the 1300 in the OnePlus Nord 2T. With the Nord 3, we've seen the company pack a Dimensity 9000, a significant step-up and a flagship-tier chipset that gave Qualcomm more than a run for its money when its plus variant was pitted against the next-generation's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. We spoke with Kinder Liu, OnePlus President and COO, and MediaTek's Dr. Yenchi Lee, the Deputy General Manager of MediaTek's Wireless Communications Business Unit, to learn more about choosing the Dimensity 9000 for the Nord 3.

OnePlus' new entry-level phone, the Nord N30, brings mostly the same experience as last year's Nord N20, which we thought was a good-looking, serviceable phone with some odd choices. This is all true with this year's device. The phone looks great (unfortunately, it looks better than it feels), and there's not much to complain about with display, processor, and general UI performance at this price point. But the cameras are seriously underwhelming.

Case in point: While we’re about a week away from moving into August, OnePlus has now started rolling out the July 2022 security patches through the stable channel, starting with the OnePlus Nord N10 5G.

Remember the OnePlus Nord 2? It was a phone that I crowned as one of my favorite phones ever released by OnePlus at the time, and with good reason. It packed excellent performance, a decent camera, and a good software experience into one affordable package. To me, that's the entire essence of what OnePlus is about. Now the company is back with a refreshed OnePlus Nord 2T, and it's more of the same with some additional bits and subtle differences on top.

Now, the company has gone ahead and published the stable version of OxygenOS 12 to the OnePlus Nord in the form of a staged rollout.

While OnePlus is busy shaping up Android 13 through its Developer Preview program, the company is also reminding users that it hasn’t forgotten about the OnePlus Nord by releasing an update through its Open Beta program. It may take several more rounds of Open Beta releases before we see the final stable OxygenOS 12 build lands on this device, but the OEM is making steady progress in that direction. The third OxygenOS Open Beta based on Android 12 is now available for the OnePlus Nord.

Today, OnePlus officially unveiled the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite and OnePlus Nord Buds alongside the OnePlus 10R. The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite is a cheaper version of the Nord CE 2 that arrived in February. Meanwhile, the OnePlus Nord Buds see OnePlus expanding the Nord brand, which has so far been restricted to smartphones, to other product categories.

Earlier this month, OnePlus released the first Open Beta of OxygenOS 12 for the OnePlus Nord, allowing users to try out an early version of Android 12 before the public release. As it's usually the case with beta releases, the first beta build was a bit rough around the edges. OnePlus has issued a hotfix that addresses some of the known issues.

Hot on the heels of the OnePlus 10 Pro launch in India, OnePlus is gearing up for another product launch. The company has just sent out launch invites for an event happening later this month where the company is expected to unveil two new smartphones and a pair of truly wireless earbuds.

OnePlus has been doing a decent job of delivering security updates to its devices, even after the ColorOS merger. What's even better is that it's not just the flagships that are getting this treatment. Budget devices, part of the Nord lineup, have also been receiving frequent updates. The OnePlus Nord N100, the original OnePlus Nord, and the OnePlus Nord CE are the latest in line to receive stable OxygenOS builds with updated security patches, bug fixes, and other improvements.
