Why is my RayPak not igniting? ›

There are several reasons that a pool heater will not light. The most common cause is a fuel delivery issue. In addition, the gas pressure would have to be measured with a manometer to ensure it is within the operating pressures specified in the installation manual.

Clogged filters and strainers—unobstructed flow is required for proper temperature monitoring. High temperature setting—setting the pool heater to more than 105°F is an easy way to cause temperature excesses and lockouts.

Heater pilot won't light? This could be due to low gas pressure, inadequate air supply, or improper venting. Make sure gas is turned on; and for propane, make sure the tank has fuel. Also check for water run-off from roof or sprinklers that may be flooding the heater.

Go make sure there aren't any tripped circuit breakers in the fuse box, then check that the unit's time clock is set to the “On” position. Check Filters & Strainers: Problems with slow or inefficient heating, as well as overly noisy operation, can sometimes be traced back to dirty filters and strainers.

If your furnace is not turning on you should first check if the filter is clean. Dirty filters cause insufficient airflow and can prevent the furnace from starting. Other reasons it won't start can stem from improper thermostat settings, forgetting to turn on the gas line, or faulty pilot light.

Most modern gas furnaces can be reset by turning off the power, waiting around 20 seconds, then switching the power back on. Other furnace models may exit lockout after 1-2 hours and attempt to power on again. If your furnace has a pilot light, you may need to relight it following the manufacturer's instructions.

Reset your pool heater by flipping the breaker switch in the electrical panel to “off” and then “on.” Your breaker may be located in a disconnect box near your pool heater or in the breaker panel in your home.

This lack of circulation can lead to uneven heating of the pool water and result in cold spots within the pool. Therefore, if the bypass valve on a pool heater is closed, the pool water will not circulate properly, impacting the heating process.

The most common cause of swimming pool heaters refusing to start up is a dirty swimming pool filter. A dirty filter or pump basket can restrict the water flow so much that the heater simply can't work.

The black knob on the gas valve will have three positions; “OFF”, “PILOT”, & “ON”. Rotate the knob to the “PILOT” position and press and hold the knob down. This manually opens the pilot diaphragm and sends gas to the pilot assembly. While holding the knob down, press in the “click-lite” 3-4 times.

"IF" - Hayward Pool Heater Fails to Ignite: the most common reason for this problem is insufficient gas supply. The Hayward heater LED display will show a diagnostic fault code of "IF" which stands for Ignition Failure. You will need to check gas pressure on gas valve.

There are two temperature sensors in a RayPak heater and a temperature sensor failure can be a result of damaged wires, unsuitable water temperature, incorrect sensor positioning, different readings on the two temperature sensors, a bad temperature sensor, or a faulty control board.

In many cases, the reason that you can't get your pilot light to ignite is that the pilot tube is clogged. This is a small metal tube that supplies the gas needed to ignite the pilot and keep it lit. The pilot tube often becomes clogged with debris, and this will prevent gas from flowing to the pilot light.

Check if the gas supply is on, the pilot light is lit (if applicable), and there are no blockages in the gas line. If everything seems okay, it might be a problem with the ignition system or the thermocouple. It's best to have a professional technician take a look to ensure it's safe and properly fixed.

A buildup in the igniter electrodes: If your gas grill's igniter electrodes have a buildup of rust or dirt, igniting your grill is definitely going to be a challenge. A poorly connected propane tank: If your gas grill's propane tank isn't properly connected to your grill, ignition is simply not going to happen.

Propane Supply: Ensure your propane tank isn't empty and the valves are open. Pilot Light or Ignition Problems: For older furnaces, the pilot light might be out. For newer models, electronic ignition issues can prevent starting. Blocked or Dirty Burners: Dirt and debris can obstruct the burner, impeding ignition.
